They ate Rats at Vicksburg

In pickup earlier with my guys making a pie run. We got behind another pickup flying stars and bars actually a flag . It’s quite common here where we live less than 20 miles from Gettysburg hallowed ground.

We were talking how foolish and ignorant these people are. And I gave my boys a history lesson. The one percent then the plantation owners. So imagine some poor confederate trooper who was born poor and illiterate.

Winds up and example I gave may of 1863 bagging it trying to hold ground with Pemberton Against Grants army and now you are screwed surrounded no chance of breakout as the army is pushed into Vicksburg. And those poor soldiers born into poverty. And lied to so they’d fight for the slave owners to own another human. They died from wounds disease. They ate rats dogs horses to stay alive in that Hell. Goes to show the power of our will to survive.

Now I seriously doubt the moron in front of us I said. Actually understands what price the confederate infantry or army paid out gunned out manufactured . With his confederate flag flying he actually thinks he’s a patriot perhaps. So beware of people flying patriotic bull spouting our way of life. Ok I rant but morons piss me off. It’s my job to warn my boys always beware.

not preaching, just offering information that your boys would be interested in. And the bonus is that it is information they will share.

Isn't it strange that these guys flying flags of countries (Germany, CSA) that fought against the USA think that *they* are patriots? Where else do people honor their country's enemies like this--and *defeated* enemies at that?

And I speak as a descendant of men who fought for the South, poor ignorant misled slobs you were describing.

Parisians under siege ate horses, mules, cats, dogs, rats and zoo animals including two elephants, Castor and Pollux.

..for four-and-a-half months from September 1870, Parisians engaged in a kind of gastronomy few would want to copy. In the middle of the Franco-Prussian War, the allied German forces surrounded France’s capital and proceeded to lay siege, cutting off a majority of food shipments to Paris. The result was the consumption of nearly every animal in Paris—horse to rat, dog to zoo elephant.

- Paris restaurant menu during the siege.

- Paris market where rats, cats and dogs were sold for eating.

In the 1920s & 1930s my mother saw old Civil War veterans at public events in Philly & Richmond. During the Civil War two ancestors, brothers from West Virginia fought for the Union. They were in battle in Va. and captured. After being held in notorious Libby Prison in Richmond, the two were released and walked home to western West Virginia.

than dirt and pinched the hell out of my cheeks...well I refused to eat the dinner she prepared as I was convinced she had cooked rats and not chicken...funny story but true...I was maybe six. My Mothers family is from Virginia...in between Navy assignments we either went to Chicago or Virginia (various places). Now every member of my Virginia family save one cousin are deep blue...and my that cousin won't vote for Trump. He may very well vote Biden.

Southerners flying it and claiming it's about Southern "heritage" really piss me off. I was born and raised in the South to an all-Southern family. Every ancestor I have who fought in the Civil War fought for the South. I even have slave-owners among my distant relatives.

And that flag does not represent me, my "heritage", or anything about me, my family, or what we believe in.

The people who flew the flag in battle were traitors to our nation. The people who fly it today are weaselly pseudo-patriots who try to disguise their racism, their bigotry, and their tawdry world-view as 'heritage'.

Fuck 'em all, I say...
