This is driving me crazy.

I posted this on fb but wanted to share here as well. It's so frustrating to me that the local news and apparently even the Health Department are validating Trump's assertion that less tests = less cases!

This is driving me crazy: "Health officials attribute Saturday’s spike in cases to a drastic increase in testing, with an all-time high of 26,378 daily tests completed."

No. The tests didn't make the cases, the VIRUS did. What these numbers mean to me is that the numbers we have been provided to date are under-reported. Less testing means less REPORTED cases, but has no effect on the number of cases, except that both the number of reported cases and actual cases could have been mitigated by knowing who had the virus, along with contact tracing, quarantining, and retesting until negative.

When you say the spike in cases is due to an increase in testing, you sound like Trump. The virus is where it is. The infection rate is what it is. We still don't know the whole story and likely will not for decades.

Just tell the truth. Do not channel the worst president in history and leave people believing that less tests means less cases. That kind of thinking will kill people.

1. Testing manipulation for the results they want

Then they claim success from their lower untrue numbers. The American people are not buying it . These doing this or promoting it will suffer when elections get here. The voters will make them pay for doing this.

2. I know it's an uphill battle here in NC

for our Democratic governor and the Director of Health. They are trying to be guided by data but the pushback is enormous, and again this comes down to a failure of the media. Small fringe-y protests get splattered all over the news, then restless people think okay, I'm going out.

This is where the local leader of OpenNC said he would kill if necessary. NC is where the republicans have fucked up this state for 10 whole years now.

I don't feel sorry for the people who will get infected because they're stupid and have a completely twisted concept of freedom. I do feel sorry for their innocent victims and the people who will risk their own lives to care for them in overwhelming circumstances.

It's the 2nd day in a row that the News and Observer reported that the rise in cases is due to an increase in testing. I have to let it go now because it frustrates me thoroughly.

3. "Testing manipulation for the results they want"

They don't care about the health of the people, they want to open up the country and that's all they care about.
If the numbers look good ,open everything up. No testing = low numbers... fuckers
If the second peak hits just before the election in 160 something days it will look bad for the repukes...Ha! I think, and this is just me talk'n here that with most of the people dying are old nursing home patients, black and brown people and only a small amount of white northern europeans they don' t care about the deaths... YMMV

4. Yup, too many "journalists" are lazy w wording. It's why Republicons pay great attention to wording

For over forty years, they've been framing issues by wording, and the STENOGRAPHERS pretending to be reporters copy it down.

Like calling estate taxes "death taxes". "pro-life" is a big con.

I've been on a one-woman crusade for years now trying to convince people to stop using that term when what they mean is anti-abortion, forced birthing, anti-woman, any other accurate term.

"I don't feel good."

Joyce: "Go to the doctor."

"I don't want to."

This goes on for a few weeks. Finally went to the doc, followed by tests...

"I got cancer. This wouldn't'a happened if you didn't make me go to the doctor."

i hope she was kidding and realized the cancer was there all along. Only difference it might have been a lot easier to treat and the prognosis may have been better if she went to the doctor sooner.

6. It's lazy journalism. I agree it's a problem
Mon May 25, 2020, 08:27 AM
May 2020

Instead of taking time to give the numbers in context or craft their script to state it in context, they use the easiest language and the first wording that comes to mind. And this is the framing that we've been hearing, so this is the framing we'll continue to hear until we replace it. If we want to break the frame, we have to make noise.

solidified the bullshit in everyone's heads to the point that that headline came out of some journalist's computer without a thought.

We are so fucking fucked.
