The courts are now stacked with Republican majorities including oodles of Trump appointees and Congress is full of fellow Republicans and corporate Dems who won't go after Trump or other Republican lawmakers for anything they do.
The "checks and balances" we were raised to believe in are bullshit. The "checks and balances" are broken. Corruption is so blatant and so widespread that more and more lawbreaking just continues indefinitely.
Until we, the people, wake up and OWN the fact that this is how things are going to continue happening, it will continue. We, the people, are too busy rooting for Team D or Team R to realize that the whole damn bunch of them are giving cover to their rich donors to break the law as they please. The courts are now stacked to always let them get away with it too.
The rest of us, aka we, the people, are on our own. Our government is just here to collect tax money from us to redistribute to the richest few.
"Protect and serve" is a fucking joke too, if you are not a white male bigot. "Protect and serve" means protect and serve the white male bigots of the world. The police act like the rest of us are some major threat to them, when we are UNARMED. Meanwhile, white bigots can carry fully loaded assault rifles directly INSIDE state capitol buildings and the police are so relaxed and zen about it that it looks like they were sedated beforehand. Once you see it, notice it, it makes you want to 
because you cannot UNSEE it.
The whole thing is a big lie. Our government is just here to collect money from us, like bullies beating us up for our milk money, so they can redistribute it to the wealthy and let their rich buddies, the crooks that they are, get away with doing whatever they want.
They never call the wealthy freeloaders and complain we don't have the money to give them. They never mention the debt left to the children and grandchildren for giving them a fuckton of money every single time we turn around. They are here to collect money from us, give it to the rich, then turn right around and refuse to do anything to the rich who break the laws. But, if we need a dime or two to get through a major pandemic, we are all of a sudden freeloaders who need to think about the debt that will leave to the children and grandchildren. That excuse has been used so long now that we ARE the grandchildren. That excuse is no longer even valid, because of that. So, they need to quit trotting it out.
