OK- I'm expecting two different deposits from the US gov into my checking account:
1. $2,400 - My coronavirus "reward"
2. $10,400ish - my tax return for 2019
So I got a deposit for $1,300-ish in my account two days ago. It's nowhere close to either amount that I'm expecting. So I log into the IRS website, since it is the Oracle of All Governmental Knowledge right now. There, I discover that the IRS has no knowledge of this transfer. So I'm guessing that the IRS put somebody else's money into my account. That means that in the interest if fairness, some poor schmuck will be wondering "where's my money?" and thus, I must expect for those funds to exit my account at some point soon.
In the meantime, I'm waiting for not only my CV-19 reward, but my tax refund as well. Those funds would be very helpful right now. Oh yeah- my state is also considering renewing my unemployment since I've been enjoying the Trump Depression since April of 2019. We'll see how that goes. I have no hopes for that.

(7,430 posts)the IRS discovers what they did and want their money back. Maybe if they don't act in three years, your favorite bank can pay you about 5 bucks in interest. It's about what banks pay these days. Think of it. An IRS mistake that takes three years to rectify can buy you a cup of coffee!

(4,533 posts)The full $2400 is available for couples earning up to $150000. The $2400 is reduced for couples earning more than $150,000 until it becomes zero at $200,000. If you earn $180,000 the amount is reduced to about $960. If you earn $170,000 the stimulus is reduced to about $1440.

(4,393 posts)and there is no way to call them to explain why I am or to check whether they've processed my 2019 return or not (and therefore whether they are sending the paper check to the right address or not).
With record levels of employment, why can't they hire more people and train them to boost the call centre capacity instead of cutting people off completely and making them rely on a website that doesn't explain what's going on with their account?
Thanks God we're "running the government like a business" and finally providing the same level of customer service from the IRS that we've come to expect from IT and telecom providers.

(10,853 posts)If the IRS chooses to ignore that I already filed my tax return this year (2-23), then the amount I got is right, because my TY18 income was much higher. Sigh. Those Republican bastards can't do anything right.
So nothing new from the IRS, or my unemployment office. At least I know I can spend this money on groceries now. Time to stock up on bacon & beer.
