The ladies in my wife's Bible study...

We're mostly Republican at the beginning of DFT's rein. Right now, there is only one who is still a Repug, and she's a multiple single issue voter (babies and guns).

All the rest have sworn off the GOP. I can see a brighter future ahead. If we can make it to the election.

Nothing in the OP was about the USA's gun scandals. I really like you Skittles but it helps no-one to pile every issue into one response.

but his behavior and incompetence are nothing new for him. If only your wife's friends had actually read or learned ANYTHING about Donnie Bodybags before they voted for him.

That would have been real nice.

As she got older the increased rhetoric in the Southern Baptist church got to her. When I was a kid in the 70s it literally never came up. Then the right wing takeover happened and Mother went with it. But she has had enough of trump. Told me the other night she was not voting in the presidential election this year. I guess I can live with that.

I'm on board with the theology but the involvement with and opinions on politics makes me nauseated. Politicians stroked SBC pastors to manipulate them, and they bit. Power corrupts, and ruined a great denomination.

You probably know their reaction when Roe vs Wade came down? It’s between a woman and God. It was not an issue. Till the Moral Majority got started up. Which was really about finding a way to end desegregation at religious colleges. The politicians convinced the leaders of the SBC that Reagan would let them practice segregation if the supported him. Of course, they could not open claim that was their goal, so Abortion became their new cause de Jour. Even though Protestants had always gone with Quickening as the beginning of life. Not conception. That and the Pill and the Sexual Revolution made them easy targets. And yeah, the power you mentioned.

But at its heart the SBC, like the Confederacy that spawned it was and is a creation of white supremacy. Although I agree the theology they preached up to the 70s was pretty legit. If I can say so as a non Christian.

Nice post. Have a good evening.

We are non-denominational.

There are about five non-debatable issues on Chistianity (IMHO), and a lot of seconddary and tertiary issues on which we are free to differ.

For me personally, I dont to hear anything poltical for about an hour-and-a-half on Sunday morning. I love that a group of people can center on Christ for even a small moment. Bring polticis into the mix, division insues.

Not a thumper here. Just a person for whom faith is very important.

I never once heard anything political when I went as a kid. I quit going in 11th grade to my dads chagrin but he did not make me go.

Funny story; it was a Sunday School teacher that made me stop going. He was telling us the normal Baptist boilerplate that the wine Jesus drank, and created was not really wine but grape juice. At this point I was already studying the sciences really seriously knowing I would go into the field in college. So I told him that before refrigeration and pasteurization all grape juice would quickly turn to wine. In a matter of days. He shut me down then talked to my father about my transgression!! Dad knew I was right but asked me if I could sit quietly each week and not disagree with the teacher. I told him I doubted I could sit there and be lied to. So he was fine with me sitting it out.

Yeah, I was a smart assed 16 year old!

I glad you found a church home that works for you.

Have a good day and stay safe.

for many evangelicals! I love the pretzels teetotalers twist themselves into over that miracle! It's often quite amusing!

I love so many evangelicals...solid, good people, non-racists who love people*. I just cant discuss politics with them.

*Many aren't good, hate certain people, and are racists. I keep away from them. They dont follow the precepts of Jesus.
