They can't be recycled, and you're only slowing down the recycling of other useful things.

(6,383 posts)I don't recycle pizza boxes. Winter gets cold, I use it for the fireplace as kindle. Probably not the best use either, but hey, when I'm cold....

(1,076 posts)Our local deliverator joint uses a corrugated lining in the bottom of the box to keep the pie from sliding around during transit. That keeps the oil/food from making contact with the box below. Tossing the liner is less wasteful than tossing the entire box.

(2,522 posts)Toss em in the yard waste bin. Or if you dont have municipal yard/food composting do it yourself.

(5,059 posts)There's also much rolling around on them to absorb the heavenly scent. Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota posts photos of their cats freaking out over pizza boxes after the interns have pizza parties.

(6,530 posts)All yard waste, vegetable scraps, and pizza boxes go in the same bin.
Handy hint: I keep a largish sealed tupperware bin in the freezer for food scraps that are not suitable for vegetable stock and empty it into the bin once it's full.

(1,765 posts)So between the recycling can and green can we fill our actual trash can which we opted for the smaller size about maybe once every 3 weeks at my house.

(4,417 posts)Pizza boxes are accepted, along with just about any kind of food scraps, paper towels, tissue and biodegradable waste you can imagine. No pet waste, though.
We use biodegradable plastic liners for the bin and freeze them when they are full. Combined with regular recycling, our large family generates about 1 kitchen bag of non recyclable waste per week.

(53,410 posts)I worked in UC Berkeley and theyve been recycling since I started working there last century. No foodstuff of any kind allowed. Pizza boxes have grease and leftover crumbs. Theyre a no no for recycling.

(3,473 posts)Maybe they should stop putting the recycle symbol on the box.
