Putin then responds with a bombshell of an answer, according to the English translation of his remarks that was broadcast during the press conference: “Yes, I did. Yes, I did. Because he talked about bringing the U.S.-Russia relationship back to normal.”

Trump was chosen because he would do what was best for Russia.

But the White House transcript of the event omits the first half of the reporter’s question, changing the context and, therefore, the meaning of Putin’s answer to the question. The change remains as yet unexplained. Below is the full transcript, with the omitted sentence. We’ve also highlighted the sentence where Trump claims he meant to say “wouldn’t” but instead said the word “would.”

I've quoted that sentence many times in this forum. The whole world heard it.

The Russian media also openly acknowledge that Putin helped Trump and they are very proud of it.
