someone on either Chris Hayes or Ari Melber, said we are not better than this cause we never had discussion regarding race relations. Race is still a topic that has not been resolved.

And that is was exactly Putin's goal is here, he saw a opportunity and took an empty vessel and groomed and exploited him for Putin's own purposes.

i'm pretty sure we were at one time, for some brief shiny time in the last 50 years. hard to pin down exactly when that was, though. 2009 was a good year.

dumbing down of society has been around for a while. They really have a low opinion of the American people, just disgusts me. They think we are lazy and want hand outs, while all the republicans want is more for themselves and fuck everyone else. They don't give a shit about us.

Picture it.

American is better than this
< insert picture of Warren, Booker, >
< or pretty much anybody else >

Even if the candidates don't produce that particular campaign poster, it would be a meme within, oh, 20 seconds.

If you put Trump in as the image, you're also saying, "Ecce Trump!"

Even worse, imagine a KKKer holding up the banner next to a picture of Booker, and saying, "I am an American, and you're right, American *is* better than *this*."

This problem is that you need to define "this", and the usual ways we construe proximal deixis is to find things that are, well, proximal to the speaker.

I understand your point, but you're framing the Election around racism, sexism, violence, xenophobia, etc. In other words, you're fighting the battle on Trump's turf. We won 2018 by focusing on our issues: jobs, health care, education costs, etc. That's how we'll win 2020.
