1. Traitor: Trump conspired with our sworn enemy to win election.
2. Corrupt: Obstructed justice in its investigation of conspiracy; and has used office to enrich himself, reward friends and punish enemies.
3. Pedosadist: Protects child sex traffickers, rapists and predators - including himself.

(3,433 posts)That's the party line at the moment. I disagree vehemently that impeachment should be off the table but Pelosi is never going to allow it. I have yet to hear an actual legitimate reason why that is based on oath of office and duty.

(37,748 posts)"She should try."
Specifically how, and what then is the immediate and short-term cost/benefit analysis?
If the reponse to both or either is "I have no idea other than speculative guesses..." (that being the only answer available), then it appears little more than an absurd exercise to travel to a destination without a map, or even knowledge of where that destination actually is.
And that wouldn't save anything-- even a republic. It would however, get many, many people lost.

(14,851 posts)I do know every day that passes with Drumpf in the Oval Office moves the nation closer to tyranny.
Thus I suggest the House impeach the motherfucker, to borrow a phrase.
An impeachment inquiry would do more than serve to show the nation the various high crimes, misdemeanors, sundry felonies and all it would demonstrate in our democracy, no one is above the law.

Also, the pressure of him facing indictment if he doesn't win, will eventually trip him up. His house of cards can't stand forever. He WILL go down at some point.....

Putins oldest friends shuffle $2 billion around
Soccer stars, billionaires and friends of powerful named
BY KEVIN G. HALL AND MARISA TAYLOR
Sacramento Bee, April 3, 2016
McClatchy Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON -- A massive leak of documents has blown open a window on the vast, murky world of shell companies, providing an extraordinary look at how the wealthy and powerful conceal their money.
Twelve current and former world leaders maintain offshore shell companies. Close friends of Russian leader Vladimir Putin have funneled as much as $2 billion through banks and offshore companies.
Those exposed in the leak include the prime ministers of Iceland and Pakistan, an alleged bagman for Syrian President Bashar Assad, a close pal of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and companies linked to the family of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
SNIP...
The data breach occurred at a little-known but powerful Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca, which has an office in Las Vegas, a representative in Miami and a presence in more than 35 other places around the world.
The firm is one of the worlds top five creators of shell companies, which can have legitimate business uses, but can also be used to dodge taxes and launder money.

(271 posts)How do I know this? Because if he was guilty the Democrats would bring Articles of Impeachment. And that is what he will run on in 2020. And if the Democrats hold on to the House they better take the Senate if they want to impeach him in his second term or else he goes Scott free. His best bet is to win in 2020 and retire his last year in office because of some medical ailment so Pence can give him a blanket pardon. He won't want to take the chance that a Republican won't win in 2024. That is what I would do if I was him.

Trump has attacked the judiciary, ridiculed the media, defended torture, condoned police brutality, urged supporters to rough up hecklers and ... equated mere policy disagreements with treason, (Madeleine Albright) writes. He libels immigrants and the countries from which they come. His words are ... calculated to exacerbate religious, social and racial divisions.

(18,122 posts)Last fall, she said that the Democratic House would hold trump accountable, yet nothing has been done except a bunch of committee meetings that have gone nowhere. Maybe Robert Mueller's testimony next week will sway some people, but we really need Speaker Pelosi to show some fight. Right now, she seems like she's only interested in fighting the progressive members of the House.
So its a calculated question for 2020: Would a prolonged, careful, substantive impeachment inquiry make Trump stronger or weaker by election day? Would a prolonged period of sniping at Trumps faults, without daring to impeach him, make Trump stronger or weaker on election day? Regardless of who the Democratic candidate turns out to be, it seems more likely that he or she will be strengthened by a House impeachment inquiry carried on with integrity before the election. Yes, it will be partisan, but that is offset if it is also principled. But first, Pelosi has to help it happen.
--------
The Democrats Pelosi denigrates are all agents of change. Pelosi talks about defeating Trump, but she doesnt embrace much change of any other sort. She cavils at the more ambitious proposals of Democratic presidential candidates. Why has the House pushed so little legislation that challenges the status quo? Is there anything Pelosi truly believes in besides herself? Dowd characterizes her as the most powerful woman in the country (with Trump the most powerful man). She seems to have made the calculation that shed rather preserve her speaker-ship than take any serious risk. Are the ambitions of a 79-year-old multimillionaire really more important than the good of the country?

The blood on Bushs hands will never dry. Under the guise of spreading democracy, his administration brought suffering to the world and strangled civil liberties at home. The Patriot Act ushered in a dystopian national security state that was maintained by Obama and bequeathed to Trump. Bushs economic policies, along with failures by Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, fed the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression.
Trump may be more bumbling and unseemly than Bush, but if he avoids waging war on such a horrific scale, he will have averted true catastrophe. Like John McCain, who never met a foreign conflict he didnt want American troops to die in, Bush is one of those statesmen who has acquired a new shine in the age of Trump, welcoming to pundits in the context of such disorder.
Because of Trumps chaos, there is a fetish these days for military men. Democrats hope the generals can stage a coup, restore order, and some stern-faced strongman with good table manners and an affinity for land wars can occupy the Oval Office. He will take chummy phone calls from Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney. He will dream anew of nation-building.
This is the world that gave rise to Bushs presidency and nurtured his most heinous sins. Perhaps, in the months to come, Bush will emerge as a stiff-lipped anti-Trumper and CNN will cheer. That would be a good career move for him.
Anything to make people forget a presidency that truly ruined the country and world.

There is a glaring omission in Pelosis list of recent presidents Reagan, Clinton, Obama, but neither Bush. The second Bush lied the country into war, a war that continues to cost us. Even that was not enough for Pelosi. She opposed impeaching Bush for the war crimes he so plainly committed. Does she lack principle? Does she lack courage? Does she always make her decisions on the narrowest partisan political calculation? What is really going on?
Democrats have the power to initiate impeachment proceedings. Democrats have the power to control the pace of those proceedings. There are numerous impeachable offenses, in almost every area climate, immigration, census, war-making, regulating contrary to statute, emoluments the list of failures to faithfully execute the laws or the office of the President is long and easily demonstrated. Even Pelosi says, he every day practically self-impeaches by obstructing justice and ignoring the subpoenas which he is allowed to do with impunity.
