The FBI had to wiretap mafia bosses like John Gotti and Vincent “The Chin” Gigante to catch them breaking the law. All they had to do to catch Donald Trump on Wednesday night was turn on ABC News. Trump proceeded to commit multiple felonies out in the open on national television when he told George Stephanopoulos he would be happy to accept dirt on his opponent from foreign governments in his 2020 re-election campaign.

"Somebody comes up and says, ‘hey, I have information on your opponent,' do you call the FBI?" Trump asked rhetorically. "It's not an interference, they have information — I think I'd take it," Trump said. "I'll tell you what, I've seen a lot of things over my life. I don't think in my whole life I've ever called the FBI. In my whole life. You don't call the FBI. You throw somebody out of your office, you do whatever you do.” He paused for a moment. “Oh, give me a break — life doesn't work that way."

He looked like he’d been gobbling Adderall. His pupils were pinned, and he kept doing that thing with his hands, holding them in front of himself and moving them apart and then together impatiently, talking to Stephanopoulos like he was a school child just learning about politics rather than the seasoned operative he is (Stephanopoulos was one of the architects of the Bill Clinton campaign when he won the presidency in 1992 and has covered political campaigns as a reporter and news anchor in the decades since then).

But perhaps Trump was right. Maybe Stephanopoulos needs a good talking to from the Capo du tutti capo on Pennsylvania Avenue. Doesn’t George get it that politics in the age of Trump is a criminal enterprise, that politicians are no different from gangsters? They don’t go to the FBI and turn each other in. They don’t report crimes. They commit them, and they keep their mouths shut. My buddy’s having sex with underage girls? Call the FBI? Are you kidding?

Just went through 4 'search' pages of the 'trump-gotti connections' and did not see much recent. Batch of credible articles in 2016 [Newsweek, Politico, etc., few more in 2017l, pair in 2018].

trump only seems to model himself on gotti - hair, fat, walk, clothes, low speech/education, obsessed with bullying enemies, boasting, lying, payoffs, illegal tactics, disdain for law, ethics, morality, common decency - list seems endless.

I think Roy was the second-most important figure in Donald’s life, next to Fred. The point is that if you could meet the guy and say to yourself, “I want to be with this guy … ” Roy was already representing the heads of all five crime families in the city of New York. And the FBI affidavit said that the five crime families would meet in his law office because the feds couldn’t eavesdrop. It was lawyer-client. That’s where the bosses got together, in his office. The feds couldn’t do anything. That was an attraction to Donald.

So these were signs from the get-go, Donald was looking for the dark side. He was angling for the dark side.

As he expanded into the casino business in Atlantic City, Trump agreed to pay twice the market value for land occupied by a bar owned by the sons of two Philadelphia Mafia bosses, the boys having made a name for themselves as part of a crew called the Young Executioners. The purchase, also reported by Barrett in his book, was reportedly routed through the secretary of Paddy McGahn, a thrice-wounded Marine war hero who had become as influential in his city as Roy Cohn was in New York.

In bringing high rollers to Atlantic City, Trump used a helicopter service owned by Joseph Weichselbaum, a mob-connected drug smuggler who lived in a Trump apartment while awaiting sentencing on narcotics charges in 1987. The case was prosecuted in Ohio but was moved to New Jersey for reasons that remain unclear.

As reported by The Smoking Gun, the case was then assigned to The Donald’s sister, federal Judge Maryanne Trump Barry. Some serious ghosts would soon be rising from that supposed coincidence had somebody not thought to quickly shift the case to another judge. Barry’s now-deceased husband, John Barry, often served as The Donald’s lawyer in New Jersey.

Trump’s dealings with mob figures appear to have included at least one member of Chinese organized crime. The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Government Affairs reported in 1992 that Danny Leung was both a vice president for marketing at Trump’s Taj Mahal casino and an associate of the 14K Triad.

“He was formerly a business partner with Eddie Louie, a 14K Triad member and the brother of Nickie Louie, aka Louie Yin Poy, a former leader of the Ghost Shadows Gang,” the committee reported. “Leung has also given complimentary tickets for hotel rooms and Asian shows to numerous members and associates of Asian organized crime.”

That Trump has no loyalty to his country, its institutions and the integrity of its elections is not surprising. That he feels no need to fake it is alarming. With the end of Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation, House Democrats’ craven fear of launching an impeachment inquiry, and the abject capitulation of Republicans to Trumpian authoritarianism, the president is reveling in his own impunity.

10. Being a gangster is a symptom of the problem

As I see it there are 4 qualifications required by the constitution to be President.

1) must be over 35
2) must be born in US and be a resident for at least 14 years
3) must be elected by the electoral college (or congress or be VP and assume on death or incapacity of POTUS)
4) must be sworn in using oath as published in constitution.

Clearly, Trump either did not understand the plain meaning of the oath he took or he had his fingers crossed behind his back at the time. Reciting the words without understanding them is just making noise... it does not create a binding 'contract'.

So... is 3 out of 4 good enough?

If he did not take or did not have any intention of abiding by the oath he took does that mean that all of his decrees and appointments can be considered null and void?

11. Trump follows a predictable pattern.

He makes an outrageous statement or lie walks it back to a degree then returns and consolidates his original outrage. He does this constantly it is not only reality testing but an attempt to shape reality. Not exactly a Jedi mind trick but he has been allowed to get by with this his entire life. I am sure Queen Elizabeth was honored to be in his presence. Big strong men cry in gratitude however more than a few women have cried for other reasons. Maybe some day that will be pointed out to Donald, rage is also a reason to cry. Every time I hear reporters clamor for Trump comments I am sickened as he reinforces co dependence. Stephanopoulos does deserve accolades for letting Trump express his malice on camera.

The American Civil War was terrible, having a crook in the Presidency (Nixon) was disgraceful, contrived wars are a horrible blemish, but I do not believe we have ever lived through a more troubling time.
