We can win the POTUS in 2020, but not take back the Senate, then have a SCOTUS justice retire or die (especially RBG, Breyer or Sotomayor) the day after our Democratic President is sworn it, and the Rethugs will simply refuse to vote on the new nominee for the next 2 years (or all four if they keep the majority after the 2022 mid-terms.) If we win re-election (POTUS) in 2024, but still do not re-take the Senate, they will do the same for the next 2 years, then again (if we fail again to re-take in 2026) for another 2 years, until 2028. Rinse wash repeat, until we get a Rethug POTUS again or retake the Senate.
Am I wrong?

(52,205 posts)they'll never approve anyone as liberal as rbg, certainly.
they'll definitely play hardball but i think they'll approve someone if they can convince the democratic president to nominate someone like kennedy, who we always thought of as rather right-wing, until the court became so insanely right-wing that he became a swing vote....

(45,806 posts)the Dems in every position to take it to the Courts! I believe if they had taken this issue to the Courts when Obama's choice was nominated, Garland would be on the court today!
I feel bad saying this, but the Dems HAVE TO STOP being nice!!!
They are always nice, honest, and courteous, and they loose every time to the ruthless arrogant and evil Pubs! I never promote meaness, but in this case, if we don't sharpen our swords, we will never win!
