Bill Maher under fire after making fried chicken joke to black congressman Will Hurd

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/bill-maher-fire-making-fried-chicken-joke-black-congressman-will-hurd-164546263.html

Comedian Bill Maher is under fire after making a comment about fried chicken to a black congressman on a recent episode of his HBO show. On Friday’s edition of Real Time With Bill Maher, the political commentator sat down to interview Will Hurd, a Republican congressman from Texas, who is black. The discussion began when Maher asked about why Hurd is a member of the GOP.

“I’m just asking why you’re Republican. Because they’re not good at the debt, that was their big thing. You said limited government, they don’t do that,” Maher said. “What’s in it for you? What is in the Republican Party for you? You were in the CIA!”

“I was in the CIA for almost a decade. I was the dude in the back alleys at 4 o’clock in the morning collecting intelligence on threats to the homeland,” said Hurd, speaking about his background.

“That’s where they collect them, huh?” said Maher. “By the Popeyes Chicken.”

Because of items like this. I know there are many in our community who find him funny and even edgy in some of his political comments. I do not and will not watch him nor his show.

then I realized quite some time ago that the edgy parts of his comedy were usually sexist or racist and said in a way that he was able to get away with it. One night I just decided I could not take his smarmy face with his shitty jokes about things people could not change and that was it. His jokes made me feel sad. We (this community) will keep him though. Too many who have nothing to lose with his comedy will watch him forever. If you are different than he is in any way such as religion, shade of skin or place of origin and very frequently sex you are game for him to make money off of "jokes" that make you feel or look to others as less than the lighter shaded males in this country. One day I would like him to go away without an audience and without appreciation but I have no hope that we will ever be that enlightened when they jokes are not pointed at so many of us.

"Trump can't even run a casino. Even Indians can do that."

Wha?

It's not "the one thing he said" it's "the last time I'm going to sit for this shit".

The Congressman could not answer with conviction, however, why he is still a repuke.

He's been a racist, sexist, Islamophobe for a LONG time. I do not consider him to be an ally.

First off, I thought Hurd was hispanic, but OK, whatever. Second, I can't remember the lead in to that comment, but there were some prior statements tying into the chicken remark.

That being said, Maher has said some idiotic/racist/sexist/homophobic/anti-religious things over the years. I actually boycotted his show for like a year after his "n" word slip a couple years back, but I've been watching again since the trump fiasco. He's an ass, but he really cleaned up his act since the last controversy.
