If the Republicans are digging in on on this, they must be petrified of losing the Senate

For whatever reason, they want THIS guy and know he won't be an option after the election.

Trump will not pull his name. He cannot suffer this kind of loss, it will drive him insane.

I see this stubborn attitude as a sign they know power is slipping from the grasp.

The longer he hangs in there the more dirt will come out and his life is going to suck no matter whether he gets confirmed or not. He was appointed in the first place only because Trump wants someone who thinks presidents can't be investigated, subpoenaed or indicted while in office. Even though he deserves the shit he's getting, why should Kavanaugh have to deal with it (and put his family through it) just to protect Trump? If it was me I'd bail out and let Trump and the GOP find somebody else.

They got greedy after successfully denying Merrick Garland with little pushback and giving his seat to Gorsuch.

I still want to know the real reason behind Kennedy's resignation/retirement from the court. The timing was very suspicious.

..and that it's Trump who is insisting on him, due to Rapey Brett's track record on "unitary executive" claims in the Dubya administration.

The fact is, there are plenty of judges who would overturn Roe, end same sex marriage, and favor corporations over workers and the environment…but Kavanaugh's the only one he's confident about ruling special prosecutors to be unconstitutional and even backing the president's right to issue himself a binding pardon.

don't favor. This gives me some hope that even if he does get confirmed, the rest of the court won't be in such a big hurry to save Trump's ass from Mueller's investigation. At least I don't see Roberts or Alito going that way (Thomas might). Of course, Roe v. Wade would still be toast.

The whole concept of searching for the best doesn't occur to them, even if they have a different interpretation of "best".

He ticked all the boxes Donnie wanted, why continue the search? "You wanna tell Donnie we need to find someone easier to get confirmed?" "F*ck that, we control the senate! They'll never vote down our guy!"

And since Dems are mathematically unable to stop it so long as Repukes are united, they ought not only try to peel a few Repukes away but regardless of that success or failure also make sure ALL of the Repukes pay the price for this.

If they're gonna confirm him anyway, make sure they have to do it in such a circumstance that it tips the balance of the Senate away from them.

But Trump wants someone who'll help protect his ugly orange ass from Mueller, and he's the one who gets to pick. Fortunately most other judges, even the conservative ones, don't have such an extreme view of executive immunity, so I'm hopeful that a majority of the supreme court, even with Kavanaugh on it, wouldn't decide that way.
