CANTON, Ga. -- The body of a 7-year-old girl who had been missing since Friday was found Monday afternoon in a dumpster from her apartment complex.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan said it appears Jorelys Rivera was severely beaten and sexually assaulted.

"This is going to be a very horrendous crime," Keenan said shortly after 2 p.m. Monday. "I'm convinced of that after observing the body."

Keenan said the dumpster where the girl's body was found was heavily compacted and had not been searched before. Early Monday afternoon, police moved the dumpster from the River Ridge Apartments to a field off Reinhardt College Parkway, so they could sift through its contents.

This little 7-year-old girl has been missing since yesterday afternoon. No, she is not blonde, but dark-haired and Hispanic. The search has been going on since yesterday. Canton is just up the road from my town of Woodstock.
