Educator seeking work outside of CA... can anyone help?
Hi kids. I created this thread because I'm curious about the responses I'll get, if any. I've worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for the past 10 years, both as an uncredentialed teacher and a credentialed school counselor with a masters degree, which is what I'm doing now. I've been a counselor since 2005, and also have my Child Welfare & Attendance credential (which allows me to work as an attendance counselor - aka, the equivalent of a "hooky cop" without the ability to issue a ticket), as well as my school counseling credential.

I've lived in Los Angeles for 13 years and I'm sick of it now. I'd love to find a new place to relocate, hopefully outside of California. I know the economy absolutely sucks right now and jobs are ridiculously hard to come by, especially in education, which has been experiencing MAJOR budget cuts, no matter where you live. I've barely been able to keep my job with LAUSD, and have done so solely because I have permanency and seniority as far as my job title goes.

Which brings me to the point of this thread. Are there any DU members who work in education in other states and are aware of any job openings in their area? I'd be interested to hear from you. I'm just curious to see what the climate is like in other states with regard to jobs in education.

Lastly, there's one other place in CA where I've considered moving. Lately, I've considered relocating to Sacramento. It's mostly on my list of places to consider just in case I decide that I don't want to leave CA. So are there any DU members from that area who work in education and can tell me something about it? I have a friend who's a social worker in the northern Central Cali valley, not far from Sacramento, who tells me it's just as hard to find jobs in education in Sacramento right now as it is in LA. I'm curious to hear some other opinions, though, if there are any.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for your help!
