Alias and West Wing on in the same time slot!
Who's hair-brained idea was that? Now I have to tape one and watch the other.

1. No contest.
It's all Alias for me. Sure, last season totally sucked but they are re-vamping the show this year so there is hope. OTOH, West Wing jumped the shark years ago and is running on fumes.

I know what I'll be watching Wed. at 9.

2. I'd take the WW
It has been quite revitalized itself this season.

Nothing against Alias, but I had to make a choice between 24 and Alias when they both started and I went with 24. (Kiefer over Jennifer Garner... What was I thinking?)

Back to the West Wing, it looks like they are really going to play up the drama of the primary and Presidential campaigns. It's admittedly a different show than it was 3 years ago, but the new dynamic has me back watching.

8. 24 and Alias is a different story
I mean, 24. Kiefer! Duh. :)

I've tried taping a few WW eps this year to give it another chance, but it's just confirmed how much I don't like this show now. I don't know what it is, it just feels like the heart's gone out of the show to me and they're going through the motions. This latest shakeup just has me bored to tears (even if I do like the idea of CJ being Chief of Staff. But then I've always loved CJ, she's the last person on the show I give a damn about).

It's kinda like how I feel about ER. If I see a promo that looks halfway interesting, I'll tape it. But then the ep gets taped over, and I don't lose sleep over it. :P

3. my thoughts exactly
This season of Alias looks like it is going to get back to the original style, and I am really looking forward to it. What is frustrating to me, though, is that my husband tried to watch both Alias and the West Wing, running between two TVs, asking me to update him on Alias. I can't talk during Alias - I might miss something important.

5. Last Wednesday was an Official Holiday at our house
S.O. cooked special dinner, cleaned up, had margueritas prepared - all so that everything could be perfect for "Lost" and "Alias". He thinks Jennifer Garner is the sexiest, most wonderful thing on earth.

Hurumph.

Well, at least there's actually benn some good TV on recently - Lost, Alias, Boston Legal, Amazing Race. Doesn't make up for having no Joss Whedon series on, but it's some consolation.

9. Funny you should mention Joss
It seems like all the Buffy/Angel fans have migrated to the various Lost boards. I can understand it, I'm a Buffyverse addict and have told more than one person Lost is like my methadone. It has the dark, almost supernatural stuff going on but there is also an element of humanity and humor (Hurley could totally be a character on a Whedon show). I think it's because Tim Minear writes for the show. At least I think it's Tim Minear...if not, someone else from ME.

Well we could always watch Point Pleasant. *snerk* I heard Marti Noxious is trying to get James Marsters to do a few guest spots. Probably so she can take his clothes off and have him tortured some more like S7 Buffy. (That woman has some issues)

4. TIVO
I just got into Alias and I'm still on season 3. West Wing has been great this season.

6. You've got it lucky:
I've got digital cable, so I can't watch one and tape the other. The VCR only tapes whatever channel the digital tuner is on.
Alas, poor West Wing, I have to say goodbye, but the lovely Ms. Garner is too much a tempation. I've been watching the show since the first episode, and I don't plan on stopping now.

7. Get a cable splitter and an A/B switch.
The ones I've used looks like these:

You will also need four lengths of coaxial cable in addition to the length you already have going from your cable box to the TV.

When set up correctly, the incoming cable signal goes into the single input of the splitter, with one signal going from one output of the splitter to the input on the digital box and then from the output of the digital box to one input of the A/B switch and the other signal goes from the other output of the splitter to the input of the VCR and from the output of the VCR to the other input of the A/B switch. You then just change the "channel" from "A" to "B" on the A/B switch in order to watch what's coming through the box or what's coming through the VCR.

The only disadvantage is that your VCR will not get ALL of the digital channels since the signal is not going through the converter but you should be able to record shows that come in on your major networks. Our cable service, without the digital box, still provides dozens of channels.

We had this set-up for years until we got our DVR. Let me know if you have any questions!
