Anti-Academies video (English charter schools)

Academies (aka "free schools") are what charter schools are called in England, and there is a robust movement against them by parents and teachers there. I've been following their group on Facebook and they just posted this gem of a video. Michael Gove is Arne Duncan's ideological twin across the pond, and is Education Secretary. There he belongs to the Conservative Party, unlike our own SOE, who really should too.

1. It took me years to realize that when an English person says "public school"

... they mean what we would call a "private school".

Like during the PM debates people were complaining that "there are three guys who all went to public school", which sort of conveys the opposite of its real sense to an American.

I had thought "free schools" were what we call public schools? Or are those "state schools"?
