1. The Astros?
Slow pitch softball teams could defeat the 'Stros.

2. It's been 19 years, Five. A long, long time. We are actually selling out most
games in Pittsburgh these day.

5. Hey, I like the Pirates.
But beating up on the Astros is like beating up on...well, the Natinals two years ago.

3. You ain't in first until...
the Brewers lose. Which they are doing to the Rockies.

If this holds up, I want a lot of praise for the Rox from you.

Something like this:

4. That's great!
Since my beloved WhiteSox suck this year, I'd like to see the Pirates go all the way.
That might shut someone up around here.

6. Well, I wanted a Twins/Nats WS, but a Pirates/Twins WS will suffice.
:)

7. A Cleveland / Pittsburgh WS would be okay by me... or better yet,
Cleveland / San Francisco

8. No, no SF, they won last year.
I want teams that no one thinks can possibly win it. :)

11. I'd love to see either a Pitt/Cleve or Pitt/Detroit World Series.
Imagine Jim Leyland coming home to Pittsburgh after nineteen years.

13. Imagine how cool a Pirates / Phillies Divisional or League Playoff series would be...
not as cool, perhaps, as Pirates / Giants, but I'd still watch.

14. Twins in the WS?
Are the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers and Indians all about to go bankrupt like the Dodgers??

16. Can't root for the big money teams anymore, even the Sox.
MLB needs a hard salary cap (like the NHL) before I start taking it seriously again. Until that day comes I'm rooting for the worst teams to win. :)

15. Best story in baseball this year!
With the Indians a close second. Wouldn't that be something? A two-hour drive or so between the two...

18. The fact that we're even sniffing the top of the division
is cause for :woohoo:

It's even better that the talk around town is Pittsburgh being buyers at the trade deadline as opposed to salary dumping sellers.

That Pittsburgh is talking about acquiring Hunter Pence or Ubaldo Jaminez is something I haven't done in ages.

20. I'll tell you what....
I'll start noticing the Pirates if they are still in first at the end of the month. They are about to play St. Louis, Atlanta and Philadelphia. Atlanta is the toughest right now.

21. I agree, El. They have been winning the series they should be winning and then
stealing a few against teams that they shouldn't be (the Red Sox series a perfect example!)

We'll see how those next three series pan out, though I am sure Clint Hurdle is not looking forward to those series.

22. No doubt it'll be tough,
starting with St. Louis on Friday, they don't have a day off for close to 3 weeks, most of that time on the road so yeah, it's going to be a tough stretch.

We're seven games over .500 which is pretty remarkable given their total lack of offense. The flip side of this tough stretch is that both St. Louis and Milwaukee more than likely will have to face Philly and Atlanta closer to the end of the season.
