Seriously.
I miss it, but I need to be home at a kind enough hour to help with homework and tuck bodies into bed.
Um, and, enough pay to actually AFFORD daycare. I've been monitoring jobs in my chosen field. The pay is shit. No wonder the payola is tempting. Do you realize that, in general, minus the talking heads, that journalists are paid worse than teachers?

2. Experience has shown me...
Relatively low pay is typical all across the publishing industry, not just newspapers. There are enough folks who are drawn to the field for reasons other than monetary reward to allow the forces of supply and demand keep salaries down. Not that we don't gripe about it!

3. Now, that's an interesting point.
If journalism doesn't make a living wage, then journalists are easy targets for payola.
