I was really hoping he would so he's split the Repukes during the primary and Byrd would stomp him in the general
http://www.dailymail.com/news/News/2005120610/West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Robin Capehart has put to rest speculation on his possible run against Sen. Robert Byrd.
He said this morning he would not file for candidacy in next year's election, opting instead to focus on guiding the state party.
"I'm honored by the number of friends and close associates who have encouraged me to run," he said. "But the decision (on whether to run) was becoming a distraction to getting the work of the party done."
Capehart issued a letter to members of the state GOP Executive Committee at noon Monday outlining his decision: "When I assumed the party leadership in May, I indicated at that time that my goal was to help the Republican Party of West Virginia in the best way possible . . . After due consideration, I have decided that the interests of the party in terms of my contribution can be best served as your chairman."
