Ireland weighing run for Byrd seat
http://www.dailymail.com/news/News/2005101011/

Secretary of State Betty Ireland isn't ruling out the possibility of running against Sen. Robert Byrd next year.

Ireland said Friday she's focusing on her state job right now, but that she won't immediately say no to Republican supporters calling on her to challenge the eight-term Democrat.

"I am honored and flattered that people are thinking of me as a potential candidate," Ireland said. "We've got a lot on our plate right here, but we aren't going to close any doors on anything that might be serving the public."

would she have to resign, or should she resign if she runs

she's the chief election officer

1. She'd be running in the middle of her term
and likely wouldn't have to resign. Ought to, but wouldn't have to.

Being a Repiglican, she could probably work her office to real advantage. Think Kent Blackwell in a polyester suit.

2. the Repukes went after Manchin during his run for governor
and called for his resignation--wonder if they'll keep to the same standard and call for her resignation if she runs

They're Repiglicans! "Rules? We don' need no stinkin' RULES!"

Rules are for democrats. That's why Dick Durbin had to apologize for discussing the obvious and Bingo Billy Bennett gets away with proposing genocide against our African American population.

Doncha just despise 'em?!

5. Wow! Wasn't that a nasty little piece of Repiglican garbage?
Did you catch this little pearl? "whoever the challenger is going to be will need toughness and smarts of a level unseen in state politics since Arch Moore."

Huh? The most corrupt, sleazy, dirty, rotten, nasty, inept politician in the last forty years is the one with the "smarts?" The one man who did more to put workers' comp in the shape it's in than any other is the "smart" one? That's a stretch fit for a member of the Fantastic Four.

Reminds me of when the Busheviks said in 2000 that the "grown-ups" would be in charge once Bush got into office.

Damn! And I was about to eat dinner! Now my appetite's ruined!

6. Yep
..and wasn't Arch the same man who was sitting on the stage at Bush's July 4 speech in Morgantown? And shook Bush's hand? Someone drive a stake into his heart, pleezuh.

7. Catlett
Oh, yeah, does he burn to serve or what?

"The decision I have to make is whether I want to give up my lifestyle, which we're certainly enjoying," he said.

9. on second thought
can anyone verify that little anecdote for me, the ummm original poster? I swear I believed it to be gospel yesterday, but this morning I went back to read the thread where I thought it was originally posted and --- nada.

If it's erroneous I plead dazed and confused and extremely busy, is all.
