Gregoire approves Gold Star license plates for war dead parents
Source: Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The mothers and fathers of dead servicemen and women from Washington can put "gold star" license plates on their cars.

Gov. Chris Gregoire signed the law Wednesday to honor families for their sacrifice.

The idea for the bill came from the Washington state chapter of the Gold Star Mothers, an organization created in the 1920s that hung a gold star in the window at the homes of war dead.

Washington joins about 20 states with gold star license plates.

3. What a waste of time and resources.
I am getting sick of these damn vanity plates.

If parents of war dead want to honor their children then let private enterprise provide an alternative.

By the way, just because they MIGHT be parents of these children doesn't mean they are good people.

Just like these "In God We Trust" plates here in Indiana. At least 90% of those that violate driving laws or rules have them on their vehicles. Before these plates they were displaying their religion by putting the fish on their cars. And they were paying for it instead of the state. Now the state pays the additional cost of the plates.

4. Thank you Indianan for chiming in on what Gold Star parents want to do in WA.
This has nothing to do with whether or not a parent, or a child, is a "good person", but about parents who wish to show their child died in Afghanistan/Iraq. It is optional and you do know they have to pay for vanity plates, though Gold Star may end up taking up the cost I think.

And no, you cannot just make a license plate, they have to be official, not private enterprise. But thank you for your concern and for kicking this.

6. I'll tell my mom...she buried her oldest child when he was 20, and KIA. Your scorn is pretty nasty.
I'm sure she would have no interest in having a gold star on her car...much too painful for something that she would see as frivilous. But, if we can have square dancing plates, and bicycle plates, a gold star plate shouldn't be all that offensive to you.

And, by the way, you can bet your stupid a** that she IS 'good people.

Jerk.

5. Think of the contrast...
Gold Star license plates versus yellow-ribbon magnets. :eyes:
