Make your voice heard on the Republican plan to fragment Travis County into four or more parts
From Lloyd Doggett:

THIS IS IT. Now is the time to make your voice heard on the Republican plan to fragment Travis County into four or more Congressional districts. If successful, no Austinite would represent Austin . We just learned that Thursday, May 19, at 9 a.m. in E1.004 at the Texas Capitol, the Senate Redistricting Committee will take public testimony. Though Lamar Smith and Michael McCaul have refused repeated requests to make the secret maps public, we know they are trying to go even further than Tom DeLay in slicing up Central Texas to ensure it has no voice in Congress reflecting its values.

HOW YOU CAN HELP NOW: Join other concerned neighbors by voicing your opposition to the plans to divide our community. The hearing is open to the public and testimony will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. We expect the committee to meet from about 9 to 11 am, and then reconvene at some point in the afternoon. Even if you can't stay all day you'll be able to easily register you disapproval of this plan in writing when you arrive, or you can check the Austin Together website during the day for updates on the committee schedule so you can know when to arrive in the afternoon. If you are not able to attend at all, you can provide written testimony to the Senate Committee on Redistricting, expressing your support for a plan that would unite as much of Travis County as possible in a single Congressional District, by emailing mattie.murray_sc@senate.state.tx.us or by faxing the committee at 512.463.8805

1. It got canceled
Just as abruptly as State Senate Republicans called the hearing on congressional maps, Senate Republicans have now canceled tomorrow's hearing. It is expected that, on short notice, they will call a hearing early next week or over the weekend so you will still be able to come and register your opinion on a GOP map that divides Travis County into four congressional districts that run from San Antonio, to North Texas, and Houston.

Visit Austin Together:
Look for more updates from me in the near future and stay up to date by checking out the Austin Together website for more news on redistricting and other ways you can help. These kind of tricks won't work to keep our voice from being heard in the Capitol or at the ballot box.

2. Thanks for saving me a trip! I'm just getting forwards this time
instead of notices. I emailed the office to get back on the list.

Same old tricks they played last go round. Call a meeting. Cancel a meeting. Reschedule, delay and then move the meeting...:grr:

Just like last time. You're right about that. We've been through this before.
