Southlake,TX vers XTO Fracking and Trans Pipe line..Not in my back yard

Nearly three weeks after XTO Energy publicly announced it would not move forward with plans for natural gas drilling in Southlake, the Fort Worth-based company has officially withdrawn its applications for both the Milner and Joe Wright sites.

In a May 16 letter addressed to Southlake Planning Director Ken Baker, Senior Regulations Affairs Coordinator Walter Dueease wrote, "XTO does not propose any construction activity or intend to commence drilling operations at the JGJ or Joe Wright drilling sites."

Southlake council members approved the controversial Milner site in a 5-2 vote at the end of February with Al Zito and Carolyn Morris opposed. The special use permit for 651 and 655 E. Highland St. would have allowed XTO to drill up to 18 gas wells on the Milner ranch near Hwy. 114. But the company's original plan called for building one pipeline to connect the two sites it had hoped to win in Southlake with an operation near the Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club in nearby Keller. With plans for both the Joe Wright and Keller sites dashed in recent months, XTO faced a harsh reality.

1. Wow - good for Southlake
Neu said XTO was "disappointed" with the outcome of its hopes for drilling in Southlake. Mayor John Terrell has said that he hopes the company's decision will help ease tension in the community created by the often-heated drilling debate.

"Hopefully, with this announcement, the two sides of the issue will calm and we can bring the city back together," he said.

Southlake remains in the midst of a 180-day gas drilling moratorium approved by the council in January. The temporary ban on new applications is scheduled to end in July, but Terrell has said he expects that council will extend the moratorium to give staff more time to review and update the city's drilling ordinance.

:toast: to protecting drinking water!

2. Probably a big facture
Exxon Mobil owns the Timberon Development in Southlake. It is major development with Mega Mansions. It would mean a decline in their property sales and value to have drilling and pipe lining going on in their backyard. Bet the CEO of Exxon Mobile called XTO and said "Think about it" Money talks.
