3. So Proud
Just like against NC, our 'Hawks could have folded. They didn't quit, and then prevailed. For many years, I wondered why Roy (who?) couldn't win the big game for us. What happened to NC? I think Roy didn't prepare them mentally for the game. Roy could have called a few more time outs in the first 15 minutes too.

But Bill Self helped our 'Hawks not give in, not get panicky, and to fight back and WIN. I have so much more respect for Self than before. Thanks, Bill.

Can't sleep, so I'm ramblin'. I'm happy to have been born in Lawrence.

4. We won't be able to sleep either
I bet we were both born in the old wing at Lawrence Memorial.

Everyone should have respect for Bill right now. He kept our team together. How about that Rio? That three pointer. Wow. Absolutely wow.

10. I apologize for not remembering
We moved too. We're in Maryland, just north of DC. If you are ever in the area you're welcome to stay with us. Let's keep in touch. We know where to find each other.

19. Wow, Mabus!
How'd you get all the way out to Maryland? I lived in S. Jersey for years, still visit. We were in Baltimore last year. I'll let you know when we're out that way again. Btw, we only went to one meetup, on my husband's last day of his 30 year job. That would be AMC Theatres, just for your information. Nothing like moving your family around for 20 some years, getting the corporate job at H.Q., and then getting the ax. I don't frequent those theatres anymore, to say the least!

21. It's a long story
but the gist of it is that we did it for financial reasons. We had been part-time, self-employed for years and finally decided it made sense for him to get a job with medical benefits and a steady paycheck.

Hubby looked for a job in the NE Kansas area but kept getting told he was overqualified. He contacted a headhunter and landed a number of interviews around the country within a couple of weeks. He did some phone interviews and it came down to Rochester, NY, Plano, TX and Washington, DC. He flew out for an interview. They called and offered him the job before he got back to Kansas. He was overjoyed and immediately called the other places and told them "no thank you".

Besides, there was the politics angle. We're in the belly of the beast, so to speak. After he accepted the job the headhunter said that if he didn't like it where he was it would be easier for him to go down the block and get similar position at another firm in the DC area. There weren't as many opportunities to do the same thing in NY or Texas. As it turns out, he really likes the firm he's with. It's a small firm and since we've been here they've had several after-hours get togethers and once a month they all go to lunch together. The bosses are pretty cool and the hours are flexible.

We don't go out to movies very often so AMC will not be getting our money. ;) We subscribe to the premium movie channels and end up seeing the movies we want eventually. Even better, with the movie subscriptions we end up seeing movies that we never heard of that are really good.

If you're ever in the area let us know. We'd be happy to put you up. We're in Rockville and about a mile from the nearest Metro station.

22. Thanks, Mabus.
I know about the job thing, that's why we ended up here. We're East-coasters originally, my kids grew up in the northeast, so I'm familiar with the D.C. area. At least my son and daughter were exposed to the diversity of that part of the country while growing up. It's been a blessing, and has molded them into adults with a better understanding of the world as a whole. Enjoy your time out there, and I'll let you know when I'm heading out that way.

23. We'll look forward to it
I know I am absolutely amazed at this area and what it has to offer. At the same time I do get homesick for Lawrence and miss the place dearly. Like my husband says, "we're not in Kansas anymore."

It is the first time I have lived outside of either Oklahoma or Kansas and I'm learning to enjoy the experience. I do love the Metro system.

It was one of the best games I've seen in a long time. The teams were pretty evenly matched. I'm still exhausted from it.

20. Hey petersond!
I know the feeling. I went so far as to check for flights. :eyes: My husband is such a party pooper.

I'm putting together some links that I will post here in the Kansas forum over the weekend from around the web showing the pride and joy within the Jayhawk Nation. I've been sending them to family throughout this week.

You should be able to order some shirts from the KU bookstore. http://kubookstore.com/ Or get some friends from Lawrence to send you guys one. One of my brothers went to campus on Wednesday and scooped up bunch of UDKs. He's going to send me one. If you'd like one I'd be more than happy to send one your way once he sends them to me.

You might also get a kick out of the pictures I posted over in the sports forum. They're mostly from a Duke basketball forum. fwiw, the dookies are talking about wearing black turtlenecks with Jayhawk stickers in Cameron when Duke plays UNC in "honor" of Roy. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=215&topic_id=68674&mesg_id=68766

24. Good pictures :)
My wife and I drove to Parsons, KS last night to find KU Championship shirts/hats, and a couple of Sports Illustrated mags...:) Pitt State was flooded out big time, so we had to plot our course to Parsons exactly...:)

25. We got t-shirts!
We got them today in the mail from the Admiral's kids. They sent shirts and a copy of the J-W. :woohoo:

We're watching SNL because they ordered a bunch of KU stuff. There are rumors that they will being doing a KU FF sketch. I'm checking SNL but spending most of my time watching the KU-Davidson game on ESPN Classic. It's good to be a Jayhawk.
