It's good to be a Jayhawk
We started this year with a fantastic football team that got no respect from the national media. Remember when the media was saying we hadn't played anyone? Yet, we won. We won BIG TIME.

Our basketball team wasn't getting respect from the national media. They kept waiting for the Hawks to fall. They kept bringing up Bradley and Bucknell. They rooted for Davidson, the Cinderella of the tournament, and they sounded disappointed when we won. And all last week the national media didn't give us respect. Up until the game started the majority of the ESPN announcers were predicting a UNC win. Yet, we came out and showed the world that KU knows how to play basketball. We won. We won BIG TIME.

We're the Jayhawks. We don't act like deserve respect, we go out and earn it. We're team players. We work together and we win. It's good to be a Jayhawk.

1. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK - GO KU!
UNC were so hyped they came out thinking they'd already won the game! Tyler Flopsborough should forget the NBA and go to Hollywood for his acting skills might be appreciated. He was SCHOOLED last night by the Fab Freshman JayHawk, Cole Aldrich! UNC could have had ol Roi long ago. Loved the slogan on the shirt - "Kansas - the birthplace of North Carolina basketball!" Go Jayhawks!

6. Cole was fantastic
I admit it, he's a lot better than I gave him credit. He saved our ass and showed Tyler how a man plays basketball.

I love that slogan! You gotta admit, all (basketball) roads lead through Lawrence. I reminded my husband a little while ago that Calipari worked for Larry Brown and when he left Bill Self took his job. That means that three of the final four teams have Lawrence/KU connections. Not to mention the fact that Larry's wife is from Lawrence. In many ways, KU is the birthplace of college basketball.

5. Sorta
We ordered some take out and watched the game. Afterward, we rewatched the game - twice. We had to stop it several times to talk to family and friends who called from the party on Massachusetts Street. Man, I miss being there in person but you know I was there in spirit.

fwiw, I've watched the game three more times today. I love my Jayhawks.

3. Still No Respect
The 'Hawks still are not being respected by the national media. It is Memphis that is being favored Monday night. Clearly, the 'Hawks were the best team of the four on the floor Saturday night. Even if you heard a few commentators talk about KU maybe winning against NC, no one at all predicted that KU would play so well as to blow-out NC.

I blame this on ACC/East Coast prejudice against the Midwest and the Big 12. Another thing that was revealed in the game was the sub-par play of N.Caro's front-line. They just couldn't compete with us, and I never heard anyone talk about that match-up before the game.

4. Are they Heelophiles or Hawkaphobes?
That's the debate the Admiral and I were having last night.

8. I had not heard that segment
They were right about the K-State/USC match-up (K-state won 80-67) and I think they are right about the eventual National Champions, Kansas. But, then I'm very biased. ;)

9. Mabus, I posted a thread on this, but maybe your thread will get me a response--

My son, who took his undergraduate degree at Kansas University, is in Baghad right now, and he is a huge Jayhawk fan. He is very excited about the Jayhawk win against UNC on Saturday, but as I don't follow sports (even though I teach at KU and often have the athletes in my classes), I did not watch the game--and did not tape it, either. He is absolutely desperate to see a tape of that game. Do any of you have a tape of Saturday's game, or do you know anyone who does? If so, would you be willing to make a copy for me to send to him? I would pay a reasonable price for it.

10. He can download it from the internet
Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 06:07 PM by Mabus
All the NCAA games from this year are available online at http://cbs.sportsline.com/

Also, here's a link to a phog.net thread about watching it/downloading with bit torrent. The instructions on where it is located and how to download it on in the thread.

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=172&f=2481&t=2318532&stm=27539022&sto=pagestart#s=172&f=2481&t=2318532&p=2

I've got it recorded on my DVR. I haven't run a tape or a DVDR of it yet. If he isn't able to access it at either of the online places above shoot me a PM and I'll make sure you get a copy of it to send to him. I would love to help you out.

P.S. He might get a kick out of phog.net. He'll have to register but most of it is free. They do have some areas that are for premium members only but most of the information gets out on the regular "hoop" forum.

11. I can't find a video of Saturday's game on that CBS sports site. All I can find is
a 1 min. 43 sec. highlight video clip (which I just sent him the link to).
