Home invasion suspect shot by intended victim
A tenant at a southwest Atlanta townhome turned the tables on a group of armed home invaders early Thursday when he grabbed his own gun and shot one of the intruders in the back.

{snip}

“They were shooting as they came in the door,” Hobbs said. “The renter grabbed his handgun, returned fire, and that’s when he struck one of the individuals.”

That suspect, shot in the lower back, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. The other suspects ran from the townhome, jumped in a car and drove off.

“As they left the location, they fired several rounds back toward the apartment,” Hobbs said.

Impossible to know if this was rival gangs, druggies robbing druggies, or bad guys targeting innocent, law-abiding citizens. Assuming the latter, it's a good thing that tenant was armed and prepared and able to defend himself from an obvious, violent attack.

5. Southwest Atlanta is a big, dangerous area
4 decades ago S.W. ATL, West End, and the area was nice, safe. maybe it was because Atlanta was busy, full of jobs and a thriving economy.

Now nobody would want to get lost there, much less live in S.W. ATL unarmed. Scary, desperate, ugly and dangerous. Like many other of America's woe begone cities.

7. Shot in the back....rude baser gunner militant.
It's pretty obvious this homeowner was just looking to shoot someone. Probably shoots at human shaped targets, and watches Fox news.

8. I hope that everyone in the US is required to have a gun
The clusterfuck shootout will be fun to watch -- from a distance of course.

12. You know I always find it strange that the only people who ever suggest ...
that everybody should own a gun are the people who oppose gun ownership.

9. "Impossible to know"
... <whether> this was rival gangs, druggies robbing druggies, or bad guys targeting innocent, law-abiding citizens. Assuming the latter, it's a good thing that tenant was armed and prepared and able to defend himself from an obvious, violent attack.

Yeah, but let's just assume the most ludicrously unlikely scenario and hitch it up to our agenda ...

A bunch of people sitting around playing video games in a non-elite part of town and one has a handgun at hand. Yeah. That sounds like yer classic random home robbery target to me.

:eyes:

Never let the fact that there are no facts whatsoever on which to base a conclusion stop anybody from leaping to the one farthest away.

10. Ludicrous indeed

Yes lets: Seems to be a real popular thing here lately.

Yuppers. If some asshole cuts me off in traffic, runs me off the road, and comes up to me as I sit in my wrecked car with my injured passengers and punches me, and informs me he is now going to leave the scene and I'd better not report his licence plate number to the police, yuppers, the holstered gun on his body is sure nuff going to have a calming effect on me. It's going to calm me right into not reporting his licence plate number to the police. Or doing much of anything.

13. A legal question for you ...
Let's suppose that a drug dealer is sitting in his home innocently playing video games during his off hours with his friends when members from another gang enter the home and begin shooting. Does the drug dealer have a right to use lethal force to defend himself and his friends?
