Teen held in S.F. gunbattle that hurt girl, 5
(10-13) 16:10 PDT SAN FRANCISCO --

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a Bayview District gunbattle last month in which a 5-year-old girl was wounded when she was caught in the crossfire, San Francisco police said Thursday.

The suspect, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was arrested after a foot chase near Kirkwood Avenue and Mendell Street about 4 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The girl was walking with her father on Third Street near Palou Avenue when two young men began shooting at each other shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sept. 20, police said.

This teenager probably was in a gang, otherwise how else could minors gain access to guns? And does this case justify a greater right to carry guns for self-defense in these situations? Or violence prevention programs?

1. Might not have been in a gang. Dad might have been a right wing 1%er with a gun cache.

Not exactly uncommon.

4.  You contradict yourself.
That is common. Much more than 1% being common.

6. Nor does it mention a "gang" as OP surmised. He wouldn't be first kid to take one of dad's guns.

Lots of right wing dads have more than a few guns. Great way to influence their kids.

9. And the kid might also have been...

...an alien from a planet where shooting people is their way of saying "Hi There! Want to have dinner with me?"

Meanwhile, in the real world, the probability is, this punk is involved in some gang activity.

That is far more likely than his dad being a right-wing member of a motorcycle club in San Francisco

13. You did....

...unless you think the term 1%er means something else...

The term "1%er" means a patch holder in a 1%er motorcycle club. It would include not just the "Big 4" but a few other lesser known, but just as serious, clubs.

Far more than 1% of the US owns firearms and of those of us who do, most of us teach our children how to handle them properly at a very early age. Not how best to shoot people, as you say, but how to properly handle a firearm.

We've told you before Hoyt, it is a good idea to have a clue what you're talking about. Once again, you demonstrate that you prefer to maintain your ignorance in the face of facts.

10. In answer to your questions...
In San Francisco ANY right to carry guns for self-defense is a "greater right," seeing how the city is another of these Keep-the-law-abiding-unarmed metropolises. As for "violence prevention," any sort of effective program would win my support. Being well-armed and promoting violence prevention are not mutually exclusive.
