Man Drinking At Bar Accused Of Pulling Gun
Edited on Wed Oct-12-11 10:23 AM by Kolesar
This is why the restaurant owners lobbied against the Republican Guns-in-bars law.

DEER PARK, Ohio -- Deer Park police said a man broke a new Ohio law, among others, after pulling a gun inside a bar.
...
As the argument became heated and verbal threats were exchanged, O’Reilly allegedly brandished a handgun and threatened to kill the other man, police said.

...
The pistol was found to have a loaded magazine but no round chambered.

Police said O’Reilly is a concealed carry permit holder. A new Ohio law that went into effect Sept. 30 gives CCW permit holders the right to carry firearms inside as bars and restaurants, but they are not allowed to consume alcohol while doing so. O’Reilly had been drinking, police said.

O’Reilly was charged with aggravated menacing, violating CCW laws, ethnic intimidation and possession of a schedule III controlled substance. He is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center pending a bond hearing.

No, that is not what you have been told; and you don't seem to understand statistics.

and exactly how do you know what I have been told and what I have read in the various posts here? Kind of presumptuous of you to assume that, is it not?

14. Yup.
This is one of the very few CCW permit holders who will have his CCW permit revoked.

and exactly how do you know what I have been told and what I have read in the various posts here?

Because you said:

another "concealed carry permit holder" story in as many days? and I thought these folks were the responsible ones . . . at least that is what we are being told, aren't we?

Since this has been repeated here many times, one would logically assume that you were told that here.

And it's true. CCW permit holders are less likely to be convicted of any kind of crime, let alone firearm-related crime, than citizens without CCW permits Even those citizens who could qualify for them but choose not to have them.

or would that totally wreck you arguement? Tell us which group has a higher incidence of irresponsibility.

33. Yes, you now have TWO anecdotes of CCW holders drunk in possession
Out of a population of several million.

As Atypical Liberal pointed out in post #14, the argument is that CCW permit holders are less likely as a group to behave in this manner than non-CCW permit holders. "Less likely" is not the same as "not at all."

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/tenn-lawmaker-arrested-dui-gun-charges-14720320

A Tennessee state lawmaker who was the lead sponsor of a law allowing handgun concealed carry permit holders to bring their guns into bars has been arrested on charges of drunken driving and possession of a gun while under the influence.

Rep. Curry Todd, a Collierville Republican, was pulled over in Nashville late Tuesday, police say in court documents. He allegedly failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. A loaded .38-caliber gun was found in a holster stuffed between the driver seat and the center console.

another CCW holder, no doubt.

They exist everywhere, despite your denial and your rude accusation that they would be among my circle of friends.

For every responsible, law-abiding and highly cautious gun-owner, there may well be one who is NOT. Adding liquor to the equation is asking for disaster.

That's it though... there may well be... you've got nothing to prove there is but you will imply that there is and treat it as fact and there was no rude accusation, you are the one that said you new them.

Perhaps you have lived a sheltered existence where you have NEVER seen an out of control drunk individual. Good for you, though I'm betting that you too have KNOWN of individuals like that. (the word is knew, not new, by the way)

Your logic, however, like your spelling, is a FAIL.

For every responsible, law-abiding and highly cautious gun-owner, there may well be one who is NOT.

So you're going for a 50% ratio? With roughly 44 million gun owners in the US, that's 22 million drunken, irresponsible yahoos. I wonder why we're only seeing incidents at a rate of single digits per day. Somebody's not doing his/her part.

It says on the story that concealed carry users are not supposed to drink (for obvious reasons) and he did.

32. Thank you for actually bothering to notice that
Yes, it's physically possible for a CCW permit holder to go into a bar and drink while carrying, even though that's illegal.
Of course, before the law was changed, it was physically possible for someone (permit holder or not) to go into a bar while carrying, even though that was illegal.

21. Its not known if he had the gun on him all night at this point.
According to the owner of the bar (from a radio interview), the person who pulled the gun first left the bar, then came back in and brandishing a gun. Its possible he had it on him all night, or its possible he went to the car to get it.

Also, I agree that this man should loose his CCW permit, and some jail time, but that doesn't make this a bad law. Obviously this man violated quite a few laws. For all we known, he has carried in bars many times, this is just the first time he was caught.
