He killed the friend so he could marry the widow. Eventually she also claimed to have been a veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart (she used her late husband's) AND that she was disabled due to her military career (claimed to have been in the Pentagon on Sept. 11) so she also defrauded the government with fake paperwork. The $900,000 amount was for the two of them. Oh, and they are now divorced.

Apparently this whole affair clued the VA in to the fact that it's not that hard to submit fake paperwork to be included in your file.

Who knew. All these years I could have been passing myself off as a Commander instead of a Petty Officer.
