Today, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland convened a meeting of the Election Threats Task Force.
Since its inception in June 2021, the task force has led the Department's efforts to address threats of violence against election workers, and to ensure that all election workers whether elected, appointed, or volunteer are able to do their jobs free from threats and intimidation. The task force engages with the election community and state and local law enforcement to assess allegations and reports of threats against election workers, and has investigated and prosecuted these matters where appropriate, in partnership with FBI Field Offices and U.S. Attorneys Offices throughout the country. - 05/13/2024.

(21,752 posts)it must have been at least a year and a half ago. He stated back then he was going to address threats against public workers. The Senate Magats bashed him for violating freedom of speech and Garland backed right down, he said he was only going to work with local law enforcement to prevent violence. There must be a record of this hearing, go back and listen to what Garland said.

(15,280 posts)I find him to be a consummate political creature. My daughters current problems with an estate Family Court Judge is very similar at the end of the day. Both legal actors just want to avoid conflict. The Executor of the estate obviously embezzled from the estate and refused to establish the estate in probate court. Add to that she Executor keeps showing up in court without an attorney. So basically there is no Estate and now has got an attorney and took the money out of the inheritance estate. Our attorney points out this is probably more Embezzlement. Garlands problems are similar he went after the low hanging fruit and delayed going after the root of the problem. This is how you create a legal shit show Garland like the Family Court Judge seems to be a master.

(6,976 posts)this is window dressing. The media has never slowed its concerted effort to normalize the possibility-ne-probability of impending MAGA electoral success despite their beyond-the-mainstream persona. And especially, despite their ongoing gross mismanagement of the House of Representatives. DU readers need to retain canny wariness of bubble life. We older Duer's need to diligently watch our blood pressure, at least until the Wednesday after election day.

Here is one way the Election Threats Task Force communicates with the public.
https://www.justice.gov/criminal/criminal-pin/file/1568966/dl?inline
Through the Election Threats Task Force and United States Attorneys Offices across the country, the Department reviews, investigates, and prosecutes threats of violence to the election community. Federal prosecutors work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Postal Inspection Service to combat these threats. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has dedicated Election Crime Coordinators (ECCs) in each of its 56 field offices across the country. A nationwide roster of ECC contact information has been distributed widely among the election community and may be obtained from the Task Force directly upon request.
He's in the Executive Branch. He will do his job so that Biden can continue his.
Then Biden can decide if he wants another AG.
In an election year context, disparaging Garland doesn't help our mission for an honestly run election across all states. .

(21,752 posts)Is it true that thousands of election workers have quit because of death threats?
How many people have been arrested for giving those death threats?
Is Kristen Clarke doing her job?
Turn on Deadline White House, on Wednesdays I believe, Nicolle has Marc Elias on her show for a block. Elias says there have been hundreds of lawsuits filed that he has been fighting. The cheating is happening right now.
Merrick Garland wouldn't make a pimple on Marc Elias' ass. Thousands of honest, patriotic election officials have quit their jobs, Garland making an announcement isn't going to bring them back.
Let's talk about Garland ensuring an honest election:
He appointed a pro-Trump special counsel, Hur, to investigate the classified documents at President Biden's properties. That deal isn't over yet, Magats are going to use Hur's report to bash President Biden with campaign ads.
Garland appointed another pro-Trump special counsel, Weiss to investigate Hunter Biden. Hunter has been investigated for 6 years by the Barr and Garland justice departments. They found absolutely no collusion between Hunter/Joe/Burisma/China so Garland made Weiss a special counsel so he could prosecute President Biden's son for lying on a gun application and not paying his taxes. Hunter is going to trial in a few weeks on the gun application and then shortly thereafter Hunter is going to trial for not paying his taxes which he did pay back, a crime that is rarely prosecuted but under Garland it is prosecuted. Magats will use these prosecutions in campaign ads against President Biden.
Oh and when is Garland going to appoint a pro-Biden special counsel to investigate Trump's 651 million dollar shady tax deduction on his Chicago Tower, and then forming a shell company to claim another 168 million dollar deduction? Trump stole at least 100 million dollars from the government, Hunter owed 1.4 million. Hunter will probably go to jail under Garland's justice system and Trump won't even be investigated. Nicolle talked about this yesterday on her show.
Jack Smith indicted TSF, Garland has indicted no one else directly below TSF, no one other than the leaders of the 2 "militias."
The states are doing a better job.

(21,752 posts)Thousands of election workers have up and quit because of death threats, most likely many replaced by Magats.
We were told when Kristen Clarke was confirmed as head of the civil rights division of DOJ that these threats would be addressed.
Anyone hear much from Kristen the past 2 years?

(21,752 posts)Michigan AG Dana Nessel sent a criminal referral to the feds asking them to investigate the fake electors. She waited 1 year and when nothing was done she prosecuted the fake electors herself.
Why is Alvin Bragg prosecuting TSF right now? He is prosecuting TSF because Merrick Garland chose not to prosecute "individual one." This trial should have been over 2 years ago.

(36,327 posts)The Garland detraction faction has been flogging their scapegoat since at least February of '23.
It goes on and on and on and on and on -- over 13+ threads -- to the point where Garland detractors just want a scapegoat because they haven't had their fast food justice burger their way.

AGAIN: 2 MONTHS after Biden's inauguration
Mar 10 2021: Merrick Garland was confirmed as AG by Congress
Mar 11 2021: AG Garland assumed office
Apr 2021: Garland's #2, Lisa Monaco was confirmed 3 MONTHS after Biden;
Lisa Monaco immediately operationalized the DOJ's eight major divisions, and hired and rehired lawyers
From the bottom up:
The FBI began arrests on Jan 6 2021 and continue to this day. The FBI is DOJ.
During the FBI arrest actions, Garland was prosecuting both new and outstanding cases, all while rebuilding the personnel of his assistant AGs, deputies and 8 Division heads.
Republicans STILL made Garland wait months for his division heads' confirmations;
Republicans did not confirm Kenneth Polite to head the DOJ's Criminal Division until July 2021!
May 11 2022: Garland's DOJ Grand jury convened until March 2024
June 3 2022: Garland's DOJ Grand jury subpoenaed Trump for remaining docs in Maralago, lawyers for Trump "certifying" that there were no more;Trump stole 11,000 government docs, 300 classified docs lawyers had earlier handed over even more
3 MONTHS AFTER GARLAND IS CONFIRMED:
July 1: the House special committee on Jan 6 is convened
July 22 2022: Garland's Grand jury testimony by Marc Short, Mike Pences Chief of Staff; & Short's counsel Greg Jacob
Sept 2 2022: Garland's Grand jury subpoenaed testimony by Pat Cipollone, (one of the participants in
a) WH meeting Dec 18 2020, that included Giuliani, Powell, Flynn, Patrick Byrne of Overstock,
b) Cipollone sat in on Jan 3 2021 DOJ official meeting with Trump, and
c) Cipollone was in direct contact with trump on Jan 6 during capitol insurrection, and did nothing when Meadows told him Trump didnt want to interfere with rioters calling for hanging Mike Pence)
and Patrick Philbin
Sept 15 2022: Garland's Grand Jury subpoenas Mark Meadows for testimony and documents
the month of Sept 2022: Garland's DOJ issued over 40 subpoenas to people close to Trump, some of whom are
Bill Stepien, DTs campaign mgr; part of team to prevent certification
Sean Dollman, DTs campaign CFO
Ben Williamson, Deputy of Mark Meadows,
Boris Epshteyn, Trump's lawyer -- phone demanded; part of team to prevent certification
Mike Lindell -- phone seized
William Russell, WH special asst to Trump, THEN special aide to Trump in Mar-a-lago
Oct 6 2022: Garland's Grand jury calls back Greg Jacob second time for further testimony
Oct 13 2022: Garland's Grand Jury calls back Marc Short, Mike Pences chief of staff, for further testimony
Nov 4 2022: classified docs found in Bidens
-- Wilmington home (garage, library), (no docs in Rehoboth beach home) and
-- Penn Biden Center in DC (Richard Sauber is spec counsel to Pres Biden)
Nov 14 2022: Garland asks John Lausch (Trump appointed US Atty, Chicago) to review found Biden documents
Nov 18 Garland appoints Jack Smith (the 3rd day after Trump announces his candidacy for 2024), who took over the the Garland DOJ case(s).
By Nov 18 2022, from the bottom up,
Garlands FBI had SENTENCED 323 Jan 6 insurrectionists and the Garland DOJ had the 27 DC District courts busy.
Everything Garland did was top-down at the DOJ. Everything the FBI did was bottom-up DOJ.
Enough already.
