Some Republican members of Congress have become so lost in conspiracy theories, grievance narratives and knee-jerk partisan spite that they're failing to recognize the national interest in restoring the function of a major U.S. port, even when, as is the case for Rep. Dan Meuser, the port is key to a major portion of their home state economy. Former Senator Claire McCaskill and civil rights attorney Charles Coleman discuss with Alex Wagner. - Aired on 03/28/2024.

(35,685 posts)Is that it is now obvious that these people are a major hindrance to our functioning economically. The dollars and cents on this will reach every CEO.
On the human side, though, it is heartbreaking to see the governor and mayor out there giving this situation everything theyve got, and then to be treated like this by people from their own country
. It is sickening beyond belief. They cant even rise to the level of basic human decency in a crisis.

(205,486 posts)As you said, this is going to be an overwhelming job, the economy and those who live nearby are desperate to have it restored. So to see the governor, the mayor and Secretary Pete being dismissed by those who aren't affected is reprehensible. Alex Wagner played that clip of Secretary Pete being attacked by Fox "News" really pissed me off. He's a lot more than they give him credit for - he was in Naval Intelligence, served in Afghanistan and was a Rhodes Scholar - yet they said with a sneer that he was only chosen for his "demographic."

(35,685 posts)And Im glad you brought up Secretary Petes outstanding credentials.
Speaking of Fox News, isnt it sad, pitiful, and pathetic that their only response to everything is simply to tear down and condemn at every step of the way? One would think there is a better use of air time than to deliver punches every day, day in, day out.
But as Kablooie points out, that is about as much as their audience can comprehend.
We know from what Rupert Murdoch said during that devastating court case that its all about money for them.
Back in the early 90s I had this Manhattan girlfriend named Jenny. We knew each other from web design and Photoshop classes. She would come out on summer weekends and we would hang out together at the pool and the RG would cook up inventive snacks for us. I was always impressed with her creativity in graphic presentation. I can still see some of her work in my minds eye.
So needless to say, I was shocked when she told me she was considering a job at fox. I said you gotta be kidding me. That place has to be Toxic. Jenny was African American so it would have been doubly toxic.
As it turned out, they did not offer the job to her. I said they are doing you a favor; theyre telling you that youre too dimensional for them.
They know exactly what they want: talent doesnt even enter the picture.

(205,486 posts)I don't watch Fox, but I have seen the videos, and I don't know how she stands it. From what I've seen, those people are so nasty and full of venom, always attacking someone - just like TFG. I guess Fox watchers are getting used to people behaving this way, that's the only reason I can imagine that TFG and his offensive attacks on those he objects to are acceptable to anyone.
And maybe they didn't hire your friend is because they were looking for another blonde woman to sit between those two ranting guys on the couch. I've seen them on Saturday Night Live.
Yeah, thats where I picked up their format, too! SNL!
Ive never watched or tuned in anything from them. All I needed to know about fox I learned from DU and SNL. Just the fact that we have a poster with the screen name FoxNewsSucks told me all I needed to know.
