I am a WWII history buff.
And I am a sucker for any submarine movie.

Outstanding performances in this movie.

The casting of the two principal actors Mitchum, and Jurgens, works really well, and the story is compelling.

Another great film in the submarine/war genre is Run Silent, Run Deep with Clark Gable (1958).

There's a documentary somewhere showing how it was filmed. The set was a duplicate interior of a real full sized sub. The cameramen used hand held cameras in the cramped areas.

I don't like subtitles.
But maybe I should relent and watch it.

Wow that is pretty neat how they filmed it.

I took German in High School but it didn't help. You get the story without knowing German.

I don't usually watch comedies but since they were about submarines I had to watch them.

I liked them both so much I watched them twice which I rarely do.
