Rick Scott doubles down on attacks against Judge Merchan's daughter

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) stuck by his attacks against the daughter of the judge overseeing former President Trumps criminal case on Sunday, claiming she is a political operative. Scott was in New York City on Thursday to support Trump in his criminal case, where he faces over 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to attempts to cover up a past affair before the 2016 election.
In front of the courthouse, Scott attacked the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, claiming she was a Democratic operative and that her work tainted the judges impartiality. Trump previously made similar remarks, but he was reprimanded after Merchan expanded a gag order in the case.
The judges daughter is a political operative and raises money for Democrats, Scott said in New York. When questioned in a Fox News Sunday interview about why he personally went after someone who is not in politics, Scott doubled down. The Democrats are using the court system to go after and prosecute, criminally, a political opponent, Scott said. Theyre just thugs trying to stop Trump from being able to run for president.
The judges daughter is a big Democrat fundraiser, he continued. Everybody involved in this is part of the Democrat machine. It looks horrible.

Think. Again.
(9,310 posts)...trump is accused of committing crimes and is being prosecuted for that.

(81 posts)This is a well established pattern with the Trumpettes. They always do what they accuse others of doing. A strange strategy but look how effective, They have persisted in call President Biden family The Biden Crime Family, Hah! Now that is rich as they (The Trumps) operate about as close to a criminal enterprise as anyone who has ever been in government this side of Tammany Hall. That's just my opinion. I could wrong!

(2,111 posts) According to the Miami Herald, federal investigators found that Scott took part in business practices at Columbia/HCA that were later found to be illegal specifically, that Scott and other executives offered financial incentives to doctors in exchange for patient referrals, in violation of federal law, according to lawsuits the Justice Department filed against the company in 2001.
The comments represent a major shift for Scott, who has long apologized for the companys behavior.
He even apologized in an FAQ section on his website: Ive made mistakes in my life. And mistakes were certainly made at Columbia/HCA, he said on the website.
I was in charge and even questioned by authorities. But thats not what matters, Scott said in a 2010 campaign ad. What matters is that the company made mistakes and as CEO I take responsibility and learn from it.
According to federal investigators, the hospital company systemically defrauded Medicare, Medicaid and other federal healthcare programs, while paying kickbacks to its physicians.

In 2010, during his first run for Florida governor, Scott sought to head off questions about his corporate record by saying that he took responsibility for issues at Columbia/HCA, even though he insisted that he was not aware of any wrongdoing at the time.
Scott made a similar claim in 2018, when he first sought his U.S. Senate seat, cutting an ad saying he took responsibility for what happened at the hospital company and claiming that it was the mark of a leader.

(2,491 posts)But the largest for profit hospital chain in the country and it also owns several hospitals in the UK.
HCA bought one county-owned hospital here in NC a few years ago, on a no-bid contract. Almost immediately, medical staff and other employees started leaving in droves. Complaints about care shot up. Now, HCA has the hospital in major trouble.
HCA is also known for patient dumping and shutting down hospitals in
lets say less profitable areas
leaving those citizens high and dry.
A coworker who has worked at HCA facilities in the past, said of HCA, [t]he only people HCA hates more than their patients are their employees.
I can easily believe it, based on what I know of the companys business practices that push shareholder value over patient care and employees. Fucking immoral bastards.

(2,039 posts)Its funny, a judges daughter somehow "taints" the judges impartiality. But its perfectly fine for a judge who owes her job to the exact person in front of her who is now under indictment for dozens of felonies to hear a case?
These folks don't even make any sense, and the media wont even call them on it. Hell, there should have already been an outcry from the legal community so loud that Judge Cannon had no choice but to recuse. Crickets....
