Joe Bidens trip to Wisconsin last week would, in normal political times, have been a grand-slam. He went to the very spot in Racine County where, in 2018, Donald Trump showed up literally holding a golden shovel, touting a new plant to be built by a Taiwanese electronics firm and promising 13,000 jobs. The next year, the firmwhich had been granted nearly $30 million in tax breaksbacked out. Last week, Biden touted a new $3.3 billion Microsoft AI data center that is poised to create around 2,000 new permanent jobsand 2,300 unionized construction jobs to build it.
The symbolism cant get any better. Whether it moves the needle, its hard to say. One poll last week did show Biden up by six points in the state, but in the polling averages, Trump still holds a small lead.
But heres another recent poll thats far more alarming. Politico and Morning Consult asked respondents a series of questions about all the major economic legislation Biden has signed. Majorities know little or nothing at all about the infrastructure bill, the CHIPS act, the American Rescue Plan, and the Inflation Reduction Act. And get this: While 40 percent said Biden has done more than Trump on infrastructure, 37 percent said Trump had done more. In January, NBC found that Trump has a 22 point advantage over Biden on the question of whom voters trust more with the economyup 15 points from the same poll in 2020.
How can this possibly be? Fine, we know that most people pay scant attention to politics. But even scant attention should produce some knowledge. I pay scant attention to pop culture events aimed at people younger than I am, but even I know that Drake and Kendrick Lamar are fighting, and that Kendrick appears to have public opinion on his side. Stuff seeps through.

(14,611 posts)There is a third of this country between us and zombie base that pays ZERO attention, but hears the righties scream, like their lies depend on it, how wonderful Trump is how Biden and liberals the sum total of that is evil, while our side does not do nearly enough to tout what Joe has done and do not act as hysterical about how bad Trump is. So, they get moved toward Trump.
This is why, as much as it hacks off some more of those on our side, I chirp into SM discussions where they both side or slag on Joe. THIS is why Hillary lost and it is what is dragging Joe down. Joe is 1,000,000 times better than Trump, but people have to understand when they flake a bit on Joe, the right does not flake on Trump as horrible as he is. Again, this influences the sleepy "middle" types who don't keep score but can just sense that Rs are more committed to Trump than Ds are to Joe - so ... SOMETHING must be wrong with Joe.

Infrastructure week was every weer but nothing happened. Same with a healthcare plan. Never happened either.
What happened with the pandemic and how he botched handling effectivelly...hundreds of thousands died...that happened.
His admin was a failure and ended with an insurrection try to stay in office.

(14,611 posts)it is the democratic party itself and other democrats because it is not just Trump, it is the entirety of the "conservative" media / online profiteers, and the vast majority of elected Rs who want to get the love from the "base" by bomb throwing hysterics.
This is the shit Ds always do to presidents, Clinton and BHO. Elected Ds give them next to no cover and rank and file flake out over tertiary shit like Israel/Gaza ... Yes, it is horrible, but it is a SERIOUS no win situation for Joe and our side fed into it. While they were hitting him for messing up however they were trying to do it with that mess, Putin/Trump and Rs were DYING for him to start holding back on military supplies, and here we are now.
Yes, Bill and BHO has more of a force of personality to muscle through it, but they were rare people with incredible charm and presence. Joe isn't them, not a "fault" he is just a good, decent, kind, yet tough, straight talker. But, beyond that, this country is more stupid by a factor of about 10 times since even BHO - we have a party that is unabashedly pro putin and somehow people don't give a shit, and our public discourse is pretty much as a level of "reality" show.
Again, not Joe's fault ...

(13,473 posts)The Republican voter base will give a negative response about Democrats and a positive response about Republicans regardless of the facts or reality. Polls are roughly broken down into thirds with one third being Democrats, Republicans and Independents. That 37% is almost all Republicans in the poll and a few others.

(4,576 posts)Whereas Democrats and independents will actually think about things and give their real opinions much of the time, Republicans and MAGAts automatically vote against President Biden--- whether they are doing well, or not, and regardless of the facts-- if they actually know them!
Because of partisan response bias-- approval polls of any president now and going forward, are virtually worthless.

(22,049 posts)New bridges or highway interchanges opening thanks to Joe Biden's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act? It's just not a story that the media is interested in. The most recent infrastructure story of interest to the media recently was about a bridge that got hit by a ship and collapsed, not about a bridge that got built.
It's really going to be up to the campaign and PACs to get the word out via ads. Hope they make sure to go after this hard.
