(2,708 posts)that truly stupid people have no idea how truly stupid they are. That is why they remain stupid. Trump supporters -- every one of them -- are truly stupid.
Doonesbury, another true genius as an observer of life and society, put up an excellent and very disturbing cartoon on Mother's Day about a financially struggling working class family, robbing Peter to pay Paul to keep the bill collectors at bay, even doing without food at times, so poor were their financial circumstances. The last panel shows them sad and depressed about the final sacrifice they were going to have to make that particular month, the one that threatened to finally crush their spirits: they were forced to reduce their monthly contribution to Fat Donnie.
But Fat Donnie supporters, many of them, are economically secure middle class. Many are million--- or billionaires. They happily follow Fat Donnie because they think that they will in no way be hurt by his grifting and political bullying. They, too, are all so very wrong, but: "The truly stupid have no idea how truly stupid they are."
Great ad, Lincoln Project, but it will not penetrate the skulls of the truly stupid.

(2,419 posts)Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease. Against stupidity we are defenseless. Neither protests nor the use of force accomplish anything here; reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict ones prejudgment simply need not be believed in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical and when facts are irrefutable they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack. For that reason, greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.

(24,017 posts)I mean they're great and carry hard to deny messages, but I never see them except when someone posts them on DU. Maybe they're only aired in battleground states. Just a shame more folks on the fence don't see them.

Getting TV airtime costs $$$$
They're not going for the hard-case Trumpsters, for them that's a waste of time. What they aim to do is pry the less-than-committed MAGAs from the Trump camp into the independent or Democratic camp and support the candidates there.

(10,909 posts)I give LP credit for targeting the wobblies, those who have had second thoughts about Trump, who are fatigued by the chaos, the constant begging for money.
They are the voters up for grabs. Plus, this is the sort of ad that will get into Donnie's head--the Conman called out for what he is.
So . . . Please continue.
